As the lead singer and songwriter of duo Savage Garden, and as a solo recording artist in his own right Australian born Darren Hayes has held a career spanning two decades. He has sold over 30 million albums globally having achieved two U.S Billboard number one singles including holding the distinction of having written the longest running A.C hit in the chart's history with ballad 'Truly Madly Deeply’ at 123 weeks on the chart.
Since 1996 Hayes has released 6 albums: two Savage Garden and four solo offerings and has toured the world many times including sold out shows at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall London, The Sydney Opera House and Radio City Music Hall New York. Some career highlights include performing at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games closing ceremonies and performing a duet with the late Luciano Pavarotti.
In 2013 after a decade in London he moved to Los Angeles where he began studying improv sketch comedy at renowned improv school The Groundlings. He has performed sketch, improv and musical comedy on various stages from IO West, The Groundlings Main stage and in very seedy Hollywood bars. Recently he’s been writing and filming comedy sketches - most of which can be found on his YouTube page. In 2015 he produced and co-created 52 episoddes of a comedy podcast 'The He Said He Show' and most recently co-wrote, co-starred in a Star Wars spoof mockumentary 'Going Dark'. In 2016 he began work earnestly writing an original stage musical which has been taking up most of his time. When not obsessed with all things theatrical he can sometimes be found moonlighting on various improv stages in Hollywood. He is represented for the stage and screen by Erin Culley at CAA.

Before becoming a musician, Darren attended University to study Journalism before switching to a teaching degree in Early Childhood Education. He worked as a supply teacher in pre-school for 12 months and resigned the day the music video for ‘I Want You’ – the first Savage Garden single – appeared on music television.
He lived in San Francisco from 1999 to 2004.
In 2004 he moved to the United Kingdom and met animator and director Richard Cullen whom he married in a private marriage ceremony in 2005 followed by an officially recognized Civil Partnership in 2006. In 2012 they moved permanently to the US where they reside in Los Angeles with their English Cocker Spaniel ‘Wally’. In 2013, due to changes in California Marriage Equality, Darren married his husband Richard (technically for the third time!). Their marriage is recogized by The United States and The United Kingdom but still not in Hayes' country of birth, Australia. He hopes this will be rectified soon.
